FWCD’s Parent Faculty Association awarded the October Falcon Wings honor to Lizzie Sell. Falcon Wings recognize PFA volunteers, FWCD teachers or staff who soar above and beyond the call of duty to enhance PFA programs or events, or have improved the greater FWCD community through their dedication and enthusiasm. A book will be donated to the library in her honor.

Mary Carolyn Clay Gatzke ’93, Falcon Wings Chair, presented the award at the October PFA meeting, sharing the following about Sell.

“You probably all know or recognize Lizzie as she has been a visible and active member of the PFA for as long as her children have been at FWCD. And she has five little Falcons. Behind the scenes, she has been shlepping snacks, planning class events, serving various positions with the PFA board and so on, but this semester, she took it a little further. This semester, Lizzie offered to fill in where she saw a need and offered to coach FWCD Middle School girls volleyball.

“Before she was wife to Rob and a mother of five children (all with extracurricular activities), Lizzie was an avid volleyball player who was awarded a scholarship to SMU to play volleyball. Her passion for the game and love of the players made her the perfect fit for coaching our Middle School girls. She runs daily practices, travels with the team, coaches the games, and has weekend tournaments.

“The nomination says, ‘She is always bright and cheery, putting the needs of others ahead of herself. She is patient, positive and upbeat. She needs to be wearing a cape for being such a superhero for her family and Fort Worth Country Day.’

Thank you, Lizzie, for finding the time you do not have to serve our school and influence these girls!”

The book chosen in Sell’s honor is Volleyball Dreams by Jake Maddox.
