The Plaid Challenge:  The Closure of our Uniform Supplier

Notes from the Head

You can imagine our shock learning on Monday, October 21, that our uniform supplier Dennis Uniform, had closed without notice. Of course, competitor uniform suppliers smelled the blood in the water (and confirmed that they had no sense the closure was coming either). CFO Tom Mitchell, Director of Advancement Sandra Tuomey (the uniform liaison for FWCD), and I immediately began setting appointments to see what the competition offered. We still have a ways to go to get to a resolution, but we do know a few things: First, we are so very fortunate to have a Parent Faculty Association that takes seriously its role in our community through the Forever Plaid Resale Shop that operates out of the Patton Field House. Thank you, Carrie Kemmer and Terry Hammond, Forever Plaid Co-chairs, for your tremendous work washing, hanging, inventorying, and accommodating buyers left and right. What a gift. Second, we may be in for a long delay for our plaid uniform elements (jumper and skort).

In the meantime, luckily, Carrie and Terry are very on top of their game and, in addition to having an incredible inventory, are focusing now on a November 13 Used Uniform Drive to collect still more.
