Alumnus Returns to Campus in New Community Role

Councilmember Michael Crain and Jack Carvalho '17 joined Head of School Eric Lombardi for a campus tour and lunch on Wednesday, May 5. Carvalho is the Interim District Director for Councilmember Crain and District 3. “Councilmember Crain and I intend to visit all schools in District 3 to learn how we can best support those institutions, Carvalho said. “Michael’s experience as a District Director with former Councilman Bryan Byrd helps our work further with his familiarity of the District as a whole. I intended to provide my experience with FWCD to support our efforts.”

Carvalho graduated from TCU in 2021 with a BS in Political Science and Government. He welcomed the opportunity to return to his alma mater with Crain. “I love visiting Fort Worth Country Day and the campus. As a proud member of the FWCD Alumni Council, I’ll take any reason to visit, catch up with teachers, and check in on how I can be a role model for the current students and support the School,” Carvalho noted. 

“It is always a thrill to share our story and our campus with visitors. Councilmember Crain was interested in all things FWCD, from the classes to the master plan,” Lombardi said.

“It was a special thrill to get to share a story with the Councilmember about Jack, who was the recipient of the Falcon Award his senior year,” he continued. “I have announced awards at the end of school years for decades. Never before or since have I seen the student body give their peer a spontaneous standing ovation when receiving such an award. Jack earned that reception by being the wonderfully spirited, devoted and kind person that he is. We are lucky he is so passionate about sharing that talent with the larger Fort Worth community.”

During the tour, Lombardi stopped in the Mason Middle School, where Carvalho connected with his cousin, Melania Meakim ’29 during math class. Melania’s brother, Madden ’33, is in the Lower School. “I’m happy to hear about Madden and Melania’s fun Lower and Middle School stories from my mom, [Anne Carvalho, past parent and former Board of Trustees member].” Carvalho’s father, Orlando, is a new FWCD Board of Trustees member. 

“Fort Worth Country Day is such a special place, and it is important to make the most of the experience,” Carvalho shared. “As a wise young man once said, ‘Life moves pretty fast; if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.’ That lesson helped me make the most of my time at Country Day, my time at TCU (Go Frogs!), and my current time representing the City of Fort Worth.”

Carvalho moved into the Interim District Director of Councilmember Crain and District 3 as the Assistant to Mayor and Council, his permanent position with the Mayor and City Council’s Office, to fill in and provide support to the Mayor, Mayor’s Staff, and all of the Districts. In this role, he handles constituent services for everyone in District 3, scheduling for Councilmember Crain, and supports projects headed by Councilmember Crain, such as the Las Vegas Trail Revitalization, or from a joint effort with other district directors in the council.
