2023: A Second Round of New Year
In 2023, I hope to win my dentist’s Most Improved Flosser Award. Otherwise, my goals for this new calendar year are fairly mundane. For instance, our new rescue dog, Bruce Wayne, shows up in my goals: May I give him enough exercise to temper his energy, and may his voice change to a not-so-piercing bark.
My goals for us at school are loftier: May 2023 further our appreciation of the power of partnership between educators and parents. Most importantly, may each and every one of our students feel known, engaged, challenged and supported.
Those goals for the calendar year are no different from the ones I had in August 2022. One of the many gifts of being in education is that we get two separate New Years: In January, we get to revisit what we set forth in August. The goal of working toward parent partnership and well-supported students is not a race and does not have a finish line. The work is ongoing. If you feel we are not maximizing our partnership regarding one of your children, or you see an opportunity for more effective support for a child, I hope you feel comfortable letting their Homeroom Teacher or Advisor or Division Head or me know.
