Jenna Bush Hager keeps her promises, even two years later. Hager was planning to visit Fort Worth Country Day in April 2020, but when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, she had to change her plans, just like everyone else.

On September 16, 2022, Hager kept her promise and attended two events for FWCD, a breakfast at River Crest Country Club and a Lower School reading on campus.

Hager started the day at River Crest, an event attended by approximately 330 women that raised money for the PFA and Moncrief Library, discussing her book, “Everything's Beautiful in Its Time,” which she wrote the year she lost her grandparents. In the book and at the event, she talks about how everything is beautiful in its time, even in your deepest grief, which is how the title of the book came about. During the 45-minute question and answer session with NBC 5 Today morning co-anchor Deborah Ferguson, Hager reminisced on her many fond memories about her grandparents and how both of her grandmothers were such strong female role models for her and her twin sister, Barbara Pierce Bush, growing up. With tears in her eyes, you could tell how much this book meant to Hager and now that her grandparents have passed, how special it is for her to continue sharing those stories with her children to keep their memories alive.

Hager also shared her story on what is now a historical day as she was in Scotland the moment Prince Charles, now King Charles III, was informed that Queen Elizabeth II was ill, just hours before the monarch passed away. She was in Scotland to interview the queen consort, Camilla, in connection with her book club. She attended a dinner the night before with King Charles III and he expressed how excited Camilla was about the interview. Hager stated while she and her team were prepping for the interview, there was commotion in the hallway and all of a sudden they heard a helicopter outside, followed by news that the Queen was ill and her family left to be by her side. Hager stated she still hopes the book club with Queen Consort Camilla will happen.

After Hager wrapped up her event at River Crest, she traveled across town to the FWCD campus to visit the Lower School students where she read her book, “The Superpower Sisterhood,” which she wrote with her sister. All of the students and teachers in attendance followed along as she read the book and the pictures displayed behind her. Throughout the reading, Hager would stop to ask questions to the group, keeping them engaged just as every teacher, or former teacher, does. Once the reading was over, Hager let a few of the students ask questions, including telling a little secret about the White House ghost. At the end of the event, Hager joined the students on the floor to take a group picture before she left.

Thanks to Kit Tennison Moncrief ’70 and Gloria Moncrief Holmsten ’00, all of the Lower School students went home with a copy of “The Superpower Sisterhood.” FWCD is grateful to Holmsten for inviting Hager to Fort Worth to share her love of reading with the community.
