FWCD’s Parent Faculty Association awarded Upper School History Teacher Andrew Thomas with the April Falcon Wings honor. Falcon Wings recognize PFA volunteers, FWCD teachers or staff who soar above and beyond the call of duty to enhance PFA programs or events, or have improved the greater FWCD community through their dedication and enthusiasm.

Andrew joined the FWCD family as an Upper School History Teacher in fall 2013. In his almost decade at the School, he has demonstrated that his commitment to students extends well beyond his outstanding role as their classroom teacher. Andrew is their champion!

In the words of Ashley Mooring, mother of Webb ’24, “Andrew Thomas goes above and beyond for his students. He is available before and after school to help. He is very communicative with students and parents alike, responding to emails quickly, even early mornings, late evenings and weekends. He has pennants displayed in his room from all the colleges his former students have attended … a testament to his genuine support, care and pride in his students.”

Andrew’s devotion is recognized not only by students and parents but also by the teachers he works alongside. Upper School History Teachers Sara Teegarden and Colin Douglas ’06 shared that Andrew always puts the student first. Whether it's providing a space for kids to get assignments done, working with them through confusing material or even visiting with them about life issues, Andrew always makes sure his door is open, and his students are always welcome. Andrew roots for his students’ successes in the classroom and their success in life.

As a parent, what more could you ask for?

The library book selected in honor of Andrew is And There Was Light: Abraham Lincoln and the American Struggle by Jon Meacham.
