Assistant Head of Lower School Announcement
Dear Lower School Families,
I am pleased to share that Meredith Hudgens Cunningham ’04, who has been serving as Interim Assistant Head of Lower School since June 1, 2024, will officially and immediately assume the role of Assistant Head of Lower School. Meredith brings a wealth of experience, dedication and enthusiasm to this position, and has shown that she is an invaluable addition to the Lower School leadership team.
With 16 years of teaching experience, Meredith has a strong background in elementary education. She has served as a teacher and administrator in public and independent schools. Her passion for creating nurturing and dynamic environments where students thrive academically, socially and emotionally will be incredibly impactful as we transition to our new Annie Richardson Bass Lower School building.
Now in her sixth year at Fort Worth Country Day, Meredith taught third grade for five years. In addition, she served on the Report Card Committee, playing a crucial role in reimagining our formal assessment records, and the Math Curriculum Committee, exploring various math curricula that will best serve us in the years to come. In addition to being a student-first teacher and an excellent colleague, Meredith has a collaborative approach and is genuinely committed to fostering meaningful relationships.
Meredith’s career began in public schools, where she taught grades 2-5 in the Northwest and Keller ISDs and served as a Technology Leader, Science Curriculum Writer, and grade-level Organizational Leader. From 2016 to 2019, Meredith worked as an Elementary Instructional Math Coach at NISD, leading initiatives like teacher video clubs and math lunch-and-learns, facilitating professional development, and modeling instructional strategies that benefited students and educators alike.
I am excited that Meredith has accepted this leadership opportunity. Together, we will continue to foster an exceptional Lower School experience that reflects the School’s mission, philosophy, core values and the excellence for which FWCD is known. Please join me in congratulating Meredith on this exciting new chapter.
