News Celebration

A birthday isn’t just a date on the calendar—it’s a celebration of time, growth, and the people who make every year meaningful. On March 6, Fort Worth Country Day marked its 63rd birthday with a spirited K-12 gathering in the Sid W. Richardson Gymnasium, where the theme of the day was clear: gratitude. Student Body President Chappell Carter ’25 set the tone for the celebration, encouraging everyone to turn to their neighbor and express their appreciation. Laughter and conversation filled the gym before he added, “Now that is how you show gratitude! I hope you’ll continue to show gratitude for your teachers, your friends and your parents every day.”

Head of School Eric Lombardi reflected on birthday celebrations. He asked the audience to raise their hands if they were celebrating a March 6 birthday. Each quad had at least one birthday representative. “I’m curious,” he said. “What do you like most about birthdays? Is it the cake, the ice cream, the presents? When I was living a little while in Spain, I had some friends who did things differently on birthdays: When it was your birthday, you gave presents, you didn’t get presents.

“I liked what my friends in Spain did,” he added. “Today, we chose to give presents for its birthday, too.” FWCD gave back to the local community through the Upper School Founders’ Day donation drive benefiting the Como Community Center, Saving Hope Foundation & Saving Hope Animal Rescue Fund, Catholic Charities and Breakthrough Fort Worth.

The spirit of gratitude also extended to faculty and staff as the School recognized service milestones of 32 faculty and staff members who have worked at the School for five, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years.

The celebration wrapped up with some FWCD spirit as Fourth Grade Teacher and Varsity Cheer Coach Courtney Corbeille Krauss ’06 and Varsity Football Coach Keith Burns introduced Talon, the cheerleaders and the drumline before kicking off a lively Quad trivia contest. When the final tally was in, Quad F claimed the coveted Quad Cup for the year!

All in all, it was a Happy Birthday for the FWCD community!
