Two individuals and one team earned Southwest Preparatory Winter 2023 Sportsmanship Awards. Carly Walker ’24 (soccer) and Chappell Carter ’25 (wrestling) are FWCD’s individual winners, and girls basketball earned the team honor.

The SPC bestows two Sportsmanship Awards each season: team and individual. SPC coaches select team awards. The individual athletic awards are determined by school, and two student-athletes at each SPC school (one male, one female) earn them each season.

“Chappell is one of the most noble people I have encountered in my life. The amount of respect he shows every opponent is unmatched,” said Varsity Wrestling Coach Hugo Munoz. “He is humble and respectful regardless of the outcome of the match. It is no surprise his teammates chose him.”

Sean Maloney, Girls Soccer Coach, spoke of Walker’s work ethic and leadership. “Carly is a hard worker and has become a great leader within the team,” he said. “She’s talented, competitive and driven. Carly did a great job this season of leading by example and being a great role model in difficult, emotional games.”

Athletic Director Leigh Block is proud of the Falcon athletes. “Carly, Chappell and the girls basketball team members demonstrate that having competitive fire and acting with class are not mutually exclusive,” he said. “These two student-athletes are terrific role models for their teammates and, really, for all of our students.”
