Fourth Grade Book Club Sets Record
The Fourth Grade Parent-Child Book Club set an attendance record at their first book club event of the year on Tuesday, October 3, with 37 fourth graders attending with their parents/guardians. The first book of the year was Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea. Setting this record was extra special because it was the last book club to take place in the Lower School building, specifically the Lower School Library. “This was one of our best discussions ever,” said Lower School Academic Support Coordinator Teresa Hoppe. “The book’s characters touch on the power of forgiveness, respecting differences, acting with courage, and understanding things from others’ points of view. It stimulated such thoughtful conversation.” Hoppe has been hosting the book club for 11 years.
Hoppe started the book club after wanting to discuss and share some great books she read with her son and has hosted the small gathering in the Lower School Library since the 2013-14 school year. The group has grown in popularity over the years. “Some of our sessions rank among the most thoughtful, inspiring book discussions I’ve had,” Hoppe said. “Participating in this book club is a great way to have a wonderful reading experience with your child and other fourth grade families.”
Fathers, mothers, grandparents and guardians are welcome to participate. The next book club meeting is December 4 from 6-7 p.m. in the Moncrief Library; the book selection will be shared soon. For additional information, please contact Teresa Hoppe.
