Veni, Vidi, Vici: Middle School Latin Team Shines in Summer Competition

Latin students Aaron Bagshahi ’29, Andrew Lobo ’26, Hudson Parcells ’28 and Blake Wood ’27 traveled with Middle School Latin teacher Clint Hagen to Knoxville, Tennessee, to participate in the National Junior Classical League Convention July 22-27. The NJCL is an organization for students of Latin, ancient Greek, and the ancient Mediterranean world. Students stayed in dorms at the University of Tennessee and enjoyed competition and fellowship with students from across the country and a few from outside the country. Altogether, the four students brought home to FWCD 16 Top-10 awards. Individual awards winners were:

Aaron Bagshahi ’29: Open Certamen (first), Greek Derivatives and Latin Literature (third), Greek Life and Literature (fourth), Latin Derivatives (fifth) and Latin Mottos, Phrases, and Abbreviations (10th)

Andrew Lobo ’26: Latin Derivatives (first), Latin Vocabulary, Latin Reading Comprehension - Prose, and Essay (fifth): Latin Grammar (ninth), and Greek Life and Literature (10th)

Blake Wood ’27: Latin Reading Comprehension and Weapons and Armor (second), Latin Mottos, Phrases, and Abbreviations (ninth) and Latin Literature (10th)
