Whitney Truax joined the Fort Worth Country Day community on September 6 as the Communications Specialist. She comes to FWCD with extensive writing, editing, graphic design and social media experience. Most recently, Truax served as an Assistant Athletics Communications Director at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she was the primary sport contact for soccer, women’s basketball, softball, women’s tennis and volleyball. In this role, she ran the sports social media accounts; created, edited and designed media guides; ran game day operations; worked with TV production companies; facilitated interviews; and wrote press releases, features and game recaps related to her primary sports.

“I am beyond excited to welcome Whitney to the FWCD family. She is going to make such an impact on the School’s communications,” said Shannon Allen, Communications and Constituent Relations Manager. “Her experiences in athletics show her incredible work ethic – these positions are demanding and require an almost unheard of time commitment and a dedication to storytelling in a variety of mediums. We are so lucky that she is bringing her exceptional writing, editing, and design skills to FWCD.”

A graduate of Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Science in Strategic Communication and a minor in General Business, Truax got her start covering college athletics at TCU as an intern in the Athletics Department. She went on to South Dakota State University, earning a graduate assistantship in their athletics department as she completed a Master of Mass Communication. As a GA, Truax was the primary sport contact for equestrian, swimming and diving, and tennis. While covering those sports, she designed graphics for and ran the Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts; created, edited and designed media guides; designed game programs; and ran “game day” operations for her assigned sports. In addition, Truax facilitated coach and student-athlete interviews and wrote weekly press releases, feature stories, and game recaps. She also supported game day operations for football, volleyball, soccer, baseball and basketball.

As a result of working with the equestrian teams at TCU and South Dakota State, Truax took on the Director of Strategic Communications remote role for the National Collegiate Equestrian Association in 2019. The NCEA, in concert with the mission and vision of the NCAA, is committed to providing college opportunities for female equestrian student-athletes to compete at the highest level while embracing equity and diversity and promoting academic and competitive excellence. In 1998, Committee on Women’s Athletics identified and adopted equestrian as an emerging sport for women at the Division I and II levels. Currently, there are 20 Division I, two Division II, and four Division III programs sponsoring equestrian.

Truax, a graduate of Aledo High School, is happy to return to Fort Worth to be closer to family, friends, and her Horned Frogs.

“I’m very excited to join the FWCD family and be able to share what makes this place so special. I can’t thank Shannon Allen, Sandra Tuomey, and Eric Lombardi enough for giving me this opportunity. As a native of the area, I’m thrilled to be back in Fort Worth and can’t wait to dive right in.”
