Senior Arjun Vasudevan was named a National Merit Semifinalist. He is among the more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 69th National Merit Scholarship Program announced nationally earlier this month. He is one of 1,535 Semifinalists in Texas, about 10% of the nationwide total.

Vasudevan has the opportunity to continue on in the competition for some 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. From the approximately 16,000 Semifinalists, more than 15,000 are expected to move to the Finalist level and will be notified of this designation in February. All National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from this group of Finalists. Merit Scholar designees are selected based on their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies, without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin or religious preference.
