Beginning at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, FWCD sophomores will take a practice ACT in the Upper School science classrooms.

The College Counselors have secured Compass Education Group to provide this free practice test, and students will be asked to register for the exam (during an upcoming Advisory period) by providing the following information:

  • Student Name
  • Student Email
  • Parent/Guardian Name
  • Parent/Guardian Email
  • Parent/Guardian Cell Number

Please note that Compass Education Group does not share student/parent/guardian information with third parties and only uses cell phone numbers in limited scenarios. The only time a parent/guardian might receive a call from the company would be if they had scheduled a call with a director or are currently using the test prep company’s services. FWCD families will not receive cold calls.

Generally, high school students are juniors before they take their first official ACT exam. Therefore, the favorable aspects of this FWCD-administered practice experience include exposure to the ACT, its format, and the customized score report that each sophomore will receive within a few weeks following the exam. Sophomores take FWCD’s practice test without ACT accommodations, but they may apply for ACT-approved accommodations at the point of their first official ACT test registration.

After reviewing the student’s practice ACT scores and comparing them with their PSAT (Preliminary SAT) scores, sophomores should be able to make an early determination about which college entrance exam, the ACT or SAT, best highlights their academic strengths. Here is a demo of the Sample Score Report.

Taking this early practice ACT should help sophomores focus their energies to prepare for their exam of choice, assuming the test results favor one over the other.
