Five FWCD Latin students attended the 2022 National Junior Classical League Convention on July 23-30 at the University of Louisiana – Lafayette. Cash Hickman ’27, Andrew Lobo ’26, Emmy Strathmeyer ’27, Blake Wood ’27, and Evelyn Young ’25 were joined by more than 1,000 other students from around the nation and from the United Kingdom and South Korea who competed in academic, artistic and athletic contests. The group was led by Middle School Latin Teacher Clint Hagen, who also serves as one of the Texas State JCL co-chairs.

In total, FWCD came home with 39 Top 10 awards. Wood earned special recognition, placing seventh overall in academic sweepstakes, which is calculated by adding up all the awards a student wins in the academic portion of the competition. He was also the highest-ranking Texan in the academic category of the convention. FWCD is exceptionally proud of all of these students.
