FWCD celebrated two students who earned the Southwest Preparatory Conference Individual 2024 Winter Sportsmanship Awards, Nara Acuna Guba ’25 (swimming) and Alex Parsons ’26 (wrestling).

Varsity Swim Head Coach Scarlett Sun could not be more proud of Acuna Guba's integrity and character in and out of the pool. “With swimming being a sport with individualistic events, Nara's teammates during practice are also her competitors at meets,” she said. “She is always respectful of those she swims against and has a strong character that shows when she loses gracefully and while she wins without gloating. Her goals always include the betterment of herself and the betterment of those around her as she continues to demonstrate sportsmanlike conduct on and off the pool deck.”

Wrestling Head Coach Hugo Muñoz is always amazed at Parson's competitive spirit. “Alex is one of the most noble and kind people I know,” he said. “He is also a great competitor who goes above and beyond to get better at his craft. He is constantly lifting and finding time for extra practices. His love for competition is evident, but most importantly he is respectful to his opponents and referees at all times.”

Director of Athletics Leigh Block said "Alex and Nara are terrific ambassadors for FWCD -- they're both awesome teammates who represent the school very well. They are shining examples that you can be competitive and driven and also classy at the same time!”

The SPC bestows two Sportsmanship Awards each season: team and individual. Team awards are selected by SPC coaches. The individual athletic awards are selected by school and two student-athletes at each SPC school (one male, one female) earn them each season.
