Falcon Wings Honors
This academic year, FWCD’s Parent Faculty Association awarded Ann Bluntzer, Sunnie Sellers, Rachel Werner and Lori McCormack, RN, with the Falcon Wings honor. Falcon Wings recognize PFA volunteers, FWCD teachers or staff who soar above and beyond the call of duty to enhance PFA programs or events, or have improved the greater FWCD community by their dedication and enthusiasm. A book will be donated to the library in their honor. Read the nominations.
Ann Bluntzer, Sunnie Sellers, Rachel Werner, FWCD 4-H Club Leaders
We are proud to say that these ladies have successfully put the “country” back in Fort Worth Country Day! Our school community was set apart several years ago when Ann and Sunnie stepped up to the challenge by taking on the responsibility to create FWCD's 4-H Club, and it has been full steam ahead ever since. 4-H builds confidence and teaches kids life skills like hard work, respect and compassion through hands-on learning to create positive change in our communities and the world. Our FWCD 4-H students in JK all the way up through Upper School are able to combine fun with responsibility by participating in various “learn-by-doing” project areas, such as poultry, livestock, gardening, cooking and more. Rachel Werner has spearheaded our Poultry Club and loves our Falcon Flock as her own. Ann, Sunnie and Rachel have the biggest hearts and give countless hours to the FWCD community to support our 4-H Club. We are truly grateful for these leaders -- they are a dream team!
Lori McCormack, RN, School Nurse
A couple of years ago, my friend told me her daughter (in Lower School) stopped by every day to see our School Nurse, Lori McCormack. I asked my friend if her daughter was feeling ok, and she told me she was fine. Perplexed, I asked my friend why her daughter was always seeing Nurse McCormack. She looked at me funny and told me because her daughter absolutely loves Nurse McCormack. I told my friend that I love Nurse McCormack too, but she should tell her daughter to scale down the visits a bit so Nurse McCormack can focus on other students who need her help … I think I offended my friend.
Nurse McCormack, you are a Superhero! It takes a special person to do what you do! You do so much MORE than just take care of our students! You treat our children like they are as important as your own family. You are a mother to four kids. You take care of your elderly mother who lives with you, you work full-time as our SUPER School Nurse and still work part-time at an inpatient rehabilitation center!
Nurse McCormack, thank you for being the primary COVID-19 medical resource for the FWCD community this year. You truly love our students and it shows! You’re always there to reassure our children every day, handling emergencies big and little. Thank you for your patience with our students and parents during these challenging times. Your compassion, optimism, patience and kindness do not go unnoticed. Because of you, the FWCD community lives in a happier, healthier and safer environment.
