FWCD was a host site for some of the 2022 Drew Medford Memorial Tournament (DMMT) games. The varsity went 3-0, which helped the team earn Private School Team of the Week, Runner Up, honors from PrivateTXHSBaseball. Senior Kurt Kimmel was the FWCD recipient of the Drew Medford Scholarship.

The DMMT, a three-day scholarship baseball tournament, was established in honor of the former Paschal High School pitcher and TCU signee who was tragically killed in a car accident following his senior year of high school. Since its founding in 2017, the DMMT has become one of Texas’ most prestigious tournaments, drawing top-flight programs from the Fort Worth area. The 2021 event marks the DMMT’s second year as a 20-team tournament after beginning as a six-team event and later expanding to 12 and 16 programs. This year, 49 games were played across five area sites from Thursday, March 11-Saturday, March 13.

The Drew Medford Memorial Tournament sets itself apart by awarding a scholarship to a senior player from each team participating in the tournament. Scholarship recipients are chosen by each participating team’s coach, and the player must embody the characteristics of the tournament’s namesake: drive to succeed, humility, empathy for others, and team leadership.

“It is an honor for our team to be included in this amazing event,” said Baseball Program Director and Head Varsity Baseball Coach Michael Settle ’99. “We are so proud of Kurt. He is of the highest character and the scholarship could not have gone to a more deserving student-athlete.”
